What is ibres.site

I created ibres.site just because I had an extra laptop sitting in my room that could have been used for hosting a website. This site is run entirely off of renewable energy, solar panels and lithium batteries, so there are no moral quandaries about using my site.

Thread, Post, Article Format

I was inspired to create the thread, post, article format when I was listening to The Standup podcast and heard them joking about the Odin programming language not having a Wikipedia page because of a lack of secondary sources. I agree that is very important for information to be true and verifiable, but we also live in a fast paced world where verifiable things don’t always have a “notable” secondary source. I think an expert on a topic, or maybe even a knowledgeable hobbyist, should be able to share their information and experience. For that reason, I am working on this format where a knowledgeable person can create a post or thread, which will become a source that can be used to write an article. Everything can be rated as helpful or not. Helpful things will rise to the top. I understand that this can let bad information through, but I think it is worth it to give a home to useful information that would not be allowed other places. I will continue to iron out how to filter through this data.

Moderation

I am not allowing images or anything other than text to be uploaded because I do not want to be responsible for moderating anything or unknowingly hosting sensitive content. I have some automatic filters that run on every post, as well as some local models running on my laptop that filter through the text content automatically. If you have any issues with this, everything is sent to a queue that I can view so I may reinstate it, though I kept the rules pretty loose so probably not.

Site Assistant

I added this just for fun and because I could. The site assistant is an instance of Qwen3.5 4B running on my laptop as well that can answer questions with information from the site. It has access to all approved articles, posts, and threads and can provide you information and point you to the original source.

The Laptop

The laptop only has 7GB of ram, so all of these processes run at certain times of the day and never at the same time. I also only have so much power I can get from my solar panels in a day, so the time they can run is limited. You won’t get your posts moderated immediately, and you will have to wait for the site assistants office hours to get a response.

Thanks for visiting and have fun!
